Spoken Tutorials by IIT Bombay

Since 5th September 2013, School of Management Sciences Varanasi is continuously organizing series of IIT-Bombay and MHRD supported ‘Spoken Tutorials’ workshops for its students. This series of workshop is organized through the video-conferencing learning mode. The programme is an initiative of the “Talk to a Teacher” project of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology, launched by MHRD, Govt of India. In this workshop IIT Bombay provides a set of Video tutorials for the students that can be studied offline. The Spoken Tutorial project is about teaching and learning a particular FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) like Linux, PHP & MySQL, Java, C, C++ suitable for IT students; similarly LibreOffice Suite and FrontAccounting, like FOSS are also available for students of commerce and Management Streams. A team from IIT-Bombay not only conducts the programme but keeps an eye on the functionality part of the participating institution. It also conducts on-line examinations and provides certificates to all successful candidates.

Spoken Tutorial based Education and Learning through Free and Open Source Software

  • This distance education method is highly conducive to self-learning.
  • Once one gets started any student or faculty can master the FOSS and also get certificates, silver ⁄ Learners and Gold ⁄ Completion ⟨ based on clearing an assessment test
  • UG, PG or Research scholar students and even teachers of Science, IT, Engineering, Commerce, Management, MCA disciplines can learn any of the FOSS.
  • Support from IIT Bombay is available over Skype, in such cases the main organizer’s computer should have a webcam via which the Spoken Tutorial team can monitor the Training and answer questions.
  • If the participants wish to take the test they must do so a month after the Training.
